About the Journal

The Journal of Contemporary China Studies is the official academic journal of the Waseda Institute of Contemporary Chinese Studies(WICCS), Waseda University, Japan. The journal publishes original articles covering political, economic and social development in contemporary China conducted by scholars and experts both within and outside Japan. It intends to offer in-depth studies and seeks to foster diverse perspectives to the major sub-areas of contemporary China. As a journal published in Japan, it also aspires to serve as an international forum for the Japanese academics and experts with their counterparts from the rest of the world.

Editorial Policy

The acceptance criteria for all papers are the quality and originality of the research. Except where otherwise stated, manuscripts are peer reviewed by anonymous reviewers and the Editors. Submitted manuscripts should be original pieces of work that have not been published in other places or not currently on offer to another publisher. They should be written in a clear, concise, direct style. Where contributions are judged as acceptable for publication on the basis of quality and originality, the Editors and the Publisher reserve the right to modify typescripts to eliminate ambiguity and improve communication between authors and readers.

Submission of Manuscripts

Submitted manuscripts should not exceed 10,000 words including footnotes and reference. Review essays should be less than 4,000 words. They must be typewritten, double-spaced, with 12-point font and in a Microsoft Word file. The Journal uses US spelling, and the style of the text and footnotes must conform to The Chicago Manual of Style. Also please include in your submission an author’s bio-data (less than 250 words), an abstract (100-250 words), keywords, and bibliographic references.
